Stacey Kondla, Literary Agent - The Rights Factory

Stacey is OPEN for queries in the following categories:
Adult: Historical (no WW1/WW2) – seeking commercial, book club worthy novels from marginalized perspectives. Would love to see history from countries rarely featured in mainstream novels.
Adult: Horror – seeking psychological and/or supernatural horror. Love gothic fiction. Please no gratuitous torture. No slasher/splatter horror. Love smart horror fiction with substance. Always a fan of feminist horror. Bonus if set in remote, frigid locations - I'm a sucker for man vs. the elements type horror like THE WHITE ROAD by Sarah Lotz.
Adult: Rom Com – seeking highly commercial, feel good rom com’s with a stand out hook. Would love to see BIPOC or LGBTQ+ rom com's.
Adult: Nonfiction – seeking narrative projects about science, biology, nature, ecology, medicine (not naturopathic), history, feminist, BIPOC, and LGBTQ+ topics . Looking for subject matter to be presented in fresh and exciting ways. Prefer commercial trade-friendly and not academic. Canadian regional nonfiction also very welcome.
Young Adult: Horror - seeking psychological and/or supernatural horror. Love gothic fiction. Please no gratuitous torture. No slasher/splatter horror. Love smart horror fiction with substance. Always a fan of feminist horror. Strong YA voice, coming of age story arc, and powerful emotional core.
Young Adult: Mystery – seeking fun, quirky mysteries and dark, fast paced thrillers. Strong YA voice, coming of age story arc, and powerful emotional core.
Young Adult: Romance – seeking feel good, escapist teen romances. No heavy subject matter here please. This is all about fun and first love. No explicit sex scenes – not looking for New Adult. Would love to see BIPOC or LGBTQ+ YA romances.
Middle Grade: Horror – seeking horror-lite here. Spooky is good but don’t scare the bejeebers off us here. Strong middle grade voice partnered with funny moments to diffuse tension. No slasher/splatter horror.
Middle Grade: Mystery – seeking commercial middle grade mysteries with a strong middle grade voice, friendship-centric. Modern contemporary or historical with a twist.
All Age Categories: Books About Books – I am a huge sucker for books about books. This year my passion project is to find the perfect book about a specific book, author, library, or bookstore. Some fave reads of mine with this subject matter include THE DICTIONARY OF LOST WORDS by Pip Williams, SHADOW OF THE WIND by Carlos Ruiz Zafon, THE BOOKSHOP OF SECOND CHANCES by Jackie Fraser, MR. PENUMBRA’S 24-HOUR BOOKSTORE by Robin Sloan, THE FORBIDDEN LIBRARY by Django Wexler, THE LAST BOOK PARTY by Karen Duchess, WHO IS MAUD DIXON? by Alexandra Andrews, PARNASSUS ON WHEELS by Christopher Morley, THE LEFT-HANDED BOOKSELLERS OF LONDON by Garth Nix, EIGHT PERFECT MURDERS by Peter Swanson, and sooooooooo many others. Because I have read so many of these kinds of books, I’m really looking for something fresh and stand out.
She would love to see more queries from BIPOC and LGBTQ2S+ authors and scientists. She would also love to see some awesome representation of middle-aged and older women in fiction.

Stacey is CLOSED to all picture book queries as her list is currently full for that category.
NO memoir, politics, or self-help.
