Marietta’s query form. Thank you for your interest in partnering with me!
PLEASE READ BEFORE SUBMITTING… and note that we ask that you only query one agent at Gallt & Zacker at a time.
I would love to add the following creatives to my list of clients:
(1) Illustrators and Author/Illustrators who authentically depict the world we live in, which naturally includes people who have been historically underrepresented. In particular, I am looking for illustrators and stories by illustrators from marginalized communities, with lived experiences, whose existence informs and guides their work whether that be through picture books or graphic novels. A strong portfolio shows a wide breath of work with a distinguishable style, showcases a strong ability for visual storytelling, and includes interconnected pieces that portray an ability to tell a full story. *Please note that I am currently not open to text-only picture book or text-only graphic novel manuscripts.* And Illustrators, if you are submitting an art portfolio because you illustrate, but do not write (and therefore don’t have a specific project), please enter N/A for the title in the ABOUT THE BOOK section, choose ILLUSTRATOR as a genre, and put “0” for the word count (all of those are required fields in QueryManager), then complete the next section FOR ARTISTS AND ILLUSTRATORS.
(2) Authors who write stories for any age group (from the youngest reader to the young adult audience) that make me laugh, cry, or feel any sort of way. Irreplaceable characters with unique perspectives are key! More specifically:
(a) Authors who write early reader and chapter books with impossible-to-forget, standout characters with series potential. I am looking for laugh-out-loud stories young kids can whole-heartedly enjoy. I am also drawn to coming-of-age stories that show characters from marginalized groups growing-up in a world that isn’t all pain. (Note; choose CHILDRENS as the genre)
(b) Authors who write middle grade and young adult. I am particularly drawn to contemporary and historical work, though I don’t shy away from sub-genres like horror and mysteries and stories full of grounded adventures. I am always on the lookout for fresh contemporaries and romcoms from diverse writers. I enjoy historical fiction where the time-period adds to the story instead of detracting from the central themes. I am open to issues books told with an authentic voice that fully respects the issue being presented. I also enjoy novels in verse, but only if the author considers themself a poet. *Please note that I do not currently represent New Adult or Adult work and am not the best fit for college-aged protagonists.*
