Query Jennifer Chevais at The Rights Factory!

Thank you for choosing to submit a query to me!

The categories I'm accepting queries for are:

- FICTION (completed manuscripts only - please note that these manuscripts should be fully edited and, hopefully, beta read by your peers);

- GRAPHIC NOVELS (must include illustrations - please make your project accessible via a cloud drive and provide me with a link. Your project doesn't have to be finished, but a viable proposal package (google what this package should include) should be provided); and

- NON-FICTION (proposals only - please keep in mind that unless a project is incredibly timely (based on current politics or events) an author's online platform will be one of the first things publishers look at).

Diversity is important to me! If your manuscript reflects parts of your personal true story, please let me know in your bio or query!

HOT TIP! I ask for two comparable titles below and I agree that picking comps can be hard. The great news is that you can pick and choose pieces of popular media that describe your story instead of trying to find two titles that describe your project perfectly.

For example, you can say "(Your manuscript's title) embodies the gothic vibe of (Title 1) and the quirky humour of (Title 2), etc..."

Another hot tip is to use popular titles that aren't "too" popular.

Generally speaking:
- I accept queries for children's manuscripts via referral only. YA is considered to be within the children’s category.

- NO modern military operation / warfare timelines, please.

- NO fictional stories using fictional U.S. presidents as one of the primary characters or to set up the story with political notes. I will likely pass.

- NO stories about fairies (i.e., the fae) or elves, please. That said, they can be included as secondary characters. They simply aren’t my jam and your story deserves someone who is all in.

- NO manuscripts that fall into the “Christian” category. I’m sure they’re lovely, but it’s a sub-genre I have no expertise in.

Unless I’ve made a specific request, please do not re-query me the same manuscript if I’ve already declined it (Sorry). I understand that this can be a challenge with the free version of Query Tracker, however, on our end, we can tell if you've queried us before.

If I’ve made the request to see your manuscript again, please let me know in the query.

***Absolutely NO AI-generated manuscripts, in whole or in part.***

A special note on word count: manuscripts over 120,000 are very hard (bordering on impossible) to place right now for debut authors. Please ensure that your manuscript’s word count is within the norm for your genre.

Thank you!
